Yeats<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The fascist thermals rising once again<br \/>\nelevate the eagle on a vulture\u2019s quest:<br \/>\nshred our legacies and serve the carcass<br \/>\nof democracy for scavengers\u2019 breakfast;<br \/>\nloose the killers, give them tools<br \/>\nto execute your bidding on the innocent;<br \/>\nnone with better judgement dare protest<br \/>\nwhile thugs tumesce with lust for dominance.<\/p>\n<p>Surely a greater crash is coming;<br \/>\nsurely the nuclear codes will come to hand.<br \/>\nA final war! The end of human plunder<br \/>\nmay come soon enough to save the other life<br \/>\nwith whom we share this small polluted sphere.<br \/>\nBring it on! What we called civilization<br \/>\nwas from the outset doomed, creating horrors<br \/>\nbeyond imagination from our good intent;<br \/>\nbuilding virtual cities to lodge monsters.<\/p>\n<p>We thought a better world was in our grasp;<br \/>\nbut every century the beast returns<br \/>\nto lift its disciples in its bloody jaws<br \/>\nand set them on the universe again.<br \/>\nIf only this time could be the last.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>15 November 2024 &#8212; in memory of W.B.
