\nfly-gyres in summer air,
\ncyclone clouds of silent wings
\nfly circles centered on my stare.<\/p>\n
What is not today decaying?
\nGroceries turn into waste,
\npoems go to tattered pages;
\ntongues dry out and lose their taste.<\/p>\n
Why do I continue watching,
\nfiguring trajectories?
\nSomewhere maggot eggs are waiting,
\nforming new simplicities.<\/p>\n
Is there any end to spending
\neverything we own or steal?
\nCan we carry on forever
\ntrading money for a meal?<\/p>\n
Termite generations cycle,
\nchewing cellulose to dust —
\nmore discarded cells consuming.
\nSomehow, calculate I must:<\/p>\n
How much longer can we make it?
\nHow much further can we go?
\nHow much more can we discover?
\nHow much less can we still know?<\/p>\n
